I find it to be dry here...
That was my grandparents' comment upon arriving in Phoenix from Canada. Not sure what they expected, really, if they were surprised by that.Great little vacation, though, all around, and I can definitely get used to these 2 day work weeks. Got to see my dear brother Ben over the weekend on his spring break from ND as he explained to me many times how much California sucks. Whatever. Apparently his goal for the week was to get as tan and/or suburned as possible, and he accomplished a nice set of blisters on his shoulders in the process. The biggest excitement of the weekend was finding a rat in my aunt's pool filter. Not kidding.
Also had a mini girls weekend with my mom. Took her to get her first pedicure ever (which she thoroughly enjoyed, of course) and saw Because I Said So. Decent movie, somewhat predictable as most chick flicks are, but makes your own mom look that much better in comparison. We also saw Wild Hogs - definitely happy I didn't spend $9 of my own money on it, but somewhat disappointed that it was 2 hours of my life that I will never get back. More importantly, lots of previews. Blades of Glory looks hilarious, and Knocked Up looks pretty funny, too. Shrek the 3rd, TMNT (which won't be as good as the original, and apparently is now too long to actually write out or say, but a nice trip down memory lane at least), and Pirates - can't wait.
The grandparents arrived on Monday night, so we spent Tuesday sitting around and complaining about the heat, then celebrated my mom's birthday at the Cheesecake Factory. Wednesday was shopping (Kohl's had a 15% senior discount, so I guess they made a haul there), and driving back to San Diego. And at the border patrol checkpoint in the mountains, oh, 30 miles outside of San Diego, I was waved over to the side, ordered to open my trunk, show my drivers license, and step out of my vehicle. Drug-sniffing dogs and a number of heavily armed border patrol officers proceeded to search my car and person. I'm sure I ruined their evening by having nothing besides an empty Diet Coke can and a suitcase.
